Transforming Teaching with Learning Space

Traditional classrooms, with fixed podium and seat configurations, are best for the teacher-centered instructional approach where information is transferred from the professor to the students through lecturing. Research studies show, however, that active learning strategies such as group discussions, team-based learning, and peer instruction, lead to a higher level of engagement and better learning outcomes. The fixed arrangement in traditional classrooms does not provide the space to support instructional methods beyond lecturing, thus hindering the shift to a learner-centered pedagogical approach.

Several classrooms at Behrend offer a flexible layout and are fully equipped to connect with users at other locations. This page is a working site that displays supporting resources for using some of the general purpose classrooms on campus.

Special thanks to Tom Deau, Ken Mason, and Joe Wnukoski for their continuous contribution to this project.
